Lash Extension FAQ’s
What are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic lashes that are attached to your natural eyelashes. Unlike false or strip lashes, extensions are glued one by one to individual eyelashes and NOT to your skin. Extensions enhance your natural beauty by adding length and fullness to your existing lashes. They let you wake up looking radiant and walk out the door without as much as a swipe of mascara!
Do Lash Extensions Hurt?
Lash extensions do not hurt when applied correctly. I use professional tools, isolate a single natural lash, and adhere one extension to your natural lash for classic lashes or fans for volume lashes.
How long do lash extensions last?
A full set of extensions can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. However, they will only last as long as your natural lash does. Like all hair on the human body, your eyelashes grow in stages. It is normal to lose 1-4 natural lashes per day, which is why a fill is recommended every 2-4 weeks.
Do I need refills?
In order to maintain the full, thick appearance of a new set of lashes, I recommend getting a touch up every 2-4 weeks. As you shed and grow new lashes, extensions will need to be reapplied.
Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
The health of your natural lashes is my number one priority! When applied correctly, lash extensions do not damage your natural lash. I apply extensions to only one natural lash, and will apply an extension that is the appropriate weight and length to ensure the integrity of your natural lash. Lash extensions are only damaging if your lash artist is not using proper techniques, using lashes that are too heavy, or too long.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Come to your appointment without wearing any eye makeup (no mascara, eyeliner or shadow), and be sure to dress comfortably. If you normally wear contacts, bring your case and glasses. It’s a good idea to skip your morning cup of coffee, as the process requires you to lay still with your eyes closed for a long period of time. For your first appointment, please arrive 5 minutes early to complete the necessary paperwork.
What should I expect during my appointment?
Your appointment will start out with a brief consultation, where I will examine your natural lashes and discuss the look you want to achieve. After the consult, it’s time to get comfy! You will be lying down during the application process, where you can listen to music or an audio book, or just drift off to sleep. I will cover your lower lashes for protection, then begin the process of individually bonding extensions to your natural lashes. The procedure is safe, painless and relaxing.
How long will my appointment take?
Depending on how many natural eyelashes you have and the style of lashes you choose, the application of a full set can take up to 2.5 hours.
I had my extensions applied somewhere else. Can I still come for a fill?
Of course! Because lash styling and technique can vary widely from salon to salon, I may need a few extra minutes to assess your existing extensions and determine the best service for you. To preserve the health of your natural lashes, I may not be able to fill the existing work (generally in the case of too long and/or heavy extensions) and may instead recommend a removal and application of a fresh full set.
How should I take care of my extensions?
Caring for your extensions is simple. Be gentle! Don’t curl or perm your lashes, and avoid using products that contain glycols near your eyes. I will send you home with an aftercare sheet and a clean spoolie brush to use on your extensions.
Waxing FAQs
How long does my hair need to be?
Let your hair grow to at least ¼ inch, typically 2-3 weeks after your last shave.
Should I shave or trim my hair between visits?
If you find yourself tempted to shave or trim, don’t! Once you see that waxing leaves you stubble-free, you won’t want to. Staying away from clippers and razors will also help to remove more growth cycles during your next visit. If you have the urge to shave in between visits, book them closer together! Razors and clippers chop the hair at its thickest, making it harder for the wax to hold on to!
What if I’m taking medications or have allergies?
If you’re taking any medication or have allergies, please consult with me. Taking antibiotics or topical acne medicines (including Accutane, Differin, Retin A, prednisone or corticosteroids) may make skin more sensitive and susceptible to some skin lifting.
How close together should I schedule my visits?
Not all re-growth cycles are the same. Some people get waxed every three weeks, while some people can make it six! If you are unsure of how close to book your appointments, try four weeks apart to start and go from there.
What is the best way to handle ingrown hairs?
Don’t pick at ingrown hairs! This makes you prone to infection and scarring! If you are struggling with those pesky ingrowns, get into a good exfoliating and moisturizing routine. Using a manual exfoliant (like a sea salt scrub) three to four times a week, combined with a chemical exfoliant (for spot treating) is a great way to keep those ingrown hairs in check! Be sure to moisturize after exfoliating to ensure your skin is hydrated and protected from environmental damage.
Should I drink coffee before a waxing visit?
Caffeine can make skin more sensitive, so it is best to wait to have your coffee until AFTER getting waxed. If you must have your coffee, consider taking some ibuprofen before your visit.
When should I start exfoliating?
Start an exfoliation routine 48 hours after you get waxed to help prevent ingrown hairs.
Should I take ibuprofen before my visit?
If you have a low pain tolerance, take ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment to help out!
Can I get waxed on my period?
It’s okay to wax when on your period. Just change your tampon right before your appointment. Also remember that the increase of blood flow may make your skin more sensitive, so you may want to take some ibuprofen before your visit.
Is there anything I should avoid after getting waxed?
For the first 24 hours after getting waxed, I recommend the following:
No hot baths or showers (keep it cool)
Avoid hot tubs, saunas or steam treatments
Avoid swimming in oceans, lakes or pools
Avoid exercise, and anything that is going to make you sweat a lot or cause friction
Avoid tanning beds and spray tans
Avoid intimacy if waxed below the belt
Can I get waxed if I’m pregnant?
Absolutely! Sometimes your skin may feel a bit tender during pregnancy, but there is no harm to you or your baby.
I have a special event coming up, and am new to waxing. When should I schedule my visit?
Plan at least two visits in before the event so you (and your skin) have some time to get used to the process!
